Peacock Orders Scripted Series
Peacock has given a series order to a scripted television adaptation of the Fast & Furious franchise, the streamer announced Thursday. The project was first revealed to be in development earlier this year during the NBCUniversal upfronts. According to Peacock, the streamer is aiming to premiere the series by 2028, a target that would place its debut in the same year as the next film in the franchise.[S1]
Vin Diesel, who disclosed in May that a scripted Fast & Furious series was in the works, will serve as an executive producer. He is joined by Sam Vincent of One Race, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, and Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan of Chris Morgan Productions. Mike Daniels, whose credits include Sons of Anarchy, Shades of Blue, and The Rockford Files, and Wolfe Coleman, known for Shades of Blue and 911: Lone Star, will be co-showrunners, pilot writers, and executive producers. Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.[S1]
Timing Tied to Fast Forever Film
The planned premiere would coincide with the next theatrical installment, Fast Forever, which has been scheduled for release on March 17, 2028. The alignment suggests Peacock intends to build on the momentum of the film's arrival. Previously, the franchise entered television through the animated series Fast & Furious Spy Racers, which Netflix aired for six seasons between 2019 and 2021.[S1]
As NBCUniversal's explainer points out, the franchise reaches its 25th year since debuting. Universal Pictures put out The Fast and the Furious on June 22, 2001 — a street-racing thriller set in Los Angeles. Vin Diesel played Dominic Toretto, Paul Walker took the role of Brian O'Conner, Jordana Brewster was Mia, and Michelle Rodriguez portrayed Letty. The release went on to spark a cultural phenomenon.[S1]
