Three-Season Pickup Follows Emmy Hat-Trick
Peacock has ordered three more seasons of The Traitors, extending the mystery competition series through Season 8. The renewal arrives after the Studio Lambert production collected its third consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, while host Alan Cumming took home his third consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program. The show earned seven Emmy nominations and wins in total.[S1]
Few were caught off guard by the pickup. Among Peacock's offerings, only Love Island USA draws a bigger audience than The Traitors, and the show's fourth installment, launched in January, posted a 72% gain in viewership compared with Season 3. This three-season order arrives on top of an already-announced Season 5, due next year. Ahead of that, a civilian version of the format will debut on NBC on September 17.[S1]
Format and Season 4 Cast
Adapted from the Dutch format De Verraders, The Traitors divides contestants into two camps: the Faithful and the Traitors. At the start of each season, Cumming selects the Traitors, who then work to eliminate the Faithful one by one while keeping their identities hidden. The Faithful try to identify the Traitors during a roundtable where players vote to banish one another. If any Traitors remain at the end, they split the prize money; if none remain, the Faithful divide it.[S1]
Season 4, filmed in Scotland as usual, featured Rob Rausch, Maura Higgins, Eric Nam, Tara Lipinski, Johnny Weir, Mark Ballas, Natalie Anderson, Kristen Kish, Stephen Colletti, Dorinda Medley, Candiace Dillard Bassett, Colton Underwood, Lisa Rinna, Yamil 'Yam Yam' Arocho, Ron Funches, Michael Rapaport, Monet X Change, Tiffany Mitchell, Caroline Stanbury, Donna Kelce, Rob Cesternino, Porsha Williams and Ian Terry. The finale saw snake-wrangler Rausch, who first gained attention on Love Island USA, outmaneuver Love Island UK alum Higgins to claim the top prize.[S1]
