The series extends Michael Hirst's Viking franchise to a new streaming platform and signals Prime Video's continued investment in large-scale historical drama.

Prime Video Reveals First Look at Bloodaxe

Prime Video has debuted first-look images for Bloodaxe, a new original series created by Vikings mastermind Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst. The show's first season chronicles the ascent of Erik Bloodaxe, portrayed by Xavier Molyneux, and his powerful wife Gunnhild, the Mother of Kings, played by Jessica Madsen of Bridgerton fame. As the couple battles for the Norse throne, their land is torn apart by rivals and betrayals, with war and chaos setting the stage for the saga.[S1][S2][S3][S4][S5][S6][S7][S8]

The ensemble cast also includes Karlis Arnolds Avots, Levi Miller, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte, and Jesper Christensen. Michael and Horatio Hirst serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Morgan O'Sullivan executive produces under his O'Sullivan Productions banner, alongside Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures, Arturo Interian, John Weber, and Sheila Hockin.[S1]

No confirmed launch date has been announced for Bloodaxe, though the show is anticipated to arrive in 2027. Its full eight-episode first season will be available on Prime Video. Ahead of that debut, the drama has already been picked up for a second season, which is being filmed in Ireland at present.[S1]
