Deadly strikes on Kfar Rumman
Israeli warplanes struck a residential building in the southern Lebanese town of Kfar Rumman just after midnight, killing nine people, including two children, and wounding five others, according to Lebanon's National News Agency. A separate drone strike on a civilian vehicle killed two medics inside the car. The attacks occurred without an online evacuation warning from the Israeli military, which did not immediately respond to questions about the strikes.[S1]
According to Lebanon's health ministry, the initial attack demolished a three-story structure near the Shuyuiya roundabout, resulting in eight fatalities, including a child and a woman, and injuries to 11 others, among them four minors and a paramedic from the Islamic Health Association. The subsequent strike targeted a vehicle carrying medics from the Risala Scout Association, causing one death and two injuries. Ceasefire under strain
These attacks occurred despite a June ceasefire intended to end hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. In recent days, Israel has escalated its strikes on southern Lebanon, with at least seven fatalities reported on Sunday. The Israeli military stated it was investigating the latest incidents. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun warned that this dangerous escalation threatened the US-mediated ceasefire and called on the international community to pressure Israel to halt its attacks.[S1][S3]
The Israeli foreign ministry accused Hezbollah of launching repeated drone attacks and attempting to rebuild its military strength in southern Lebanon, asserting that the Iran-backed group had breached the ceasefire. The trilateral arrangement involving Lebanon, Israel, and the US requires Hezbollah to disarm, Israeli forces to withdraw gradually, and the Lebanese army to deploy throughout the region.
