Iran's Military Declares Full Readiness
State media on Sunday carried remarks from army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia, who said Iran's armed forces stand ready to meet any fresh strikes from the United States. According to Akraminia, the military is completely prepared for a confrontation, and he cautioned that Washington would endure heavier losses should it attack his country again. His comments followed US President Donald Trump's statement that he had turned down an Iranian offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and halt the fighting.[S1]
Commander Warns War at Decisive Stage
In a separate statement, Iranian Army Commander-in-Chief Amir Hatami described the conflict as having reached a critical and decisive moment. He said Tehran would reject any arrangement in which it could not conduct trade while outside powers made use of the region's strategic waterways. Hatami cautioned that if Iran is barred from trading and from living, then no one else will be able to trade or live either, calling the Strait of Hormuz the strait of Iran's dignity and honour and saying the country's enemies would not be permitted to exploit that major logistical chokepoint while the Iranian people go without.[S1]
