Gold holds its ground as rate expectations dominate
Gold prices were unchanged in early Asian trading on Thursday, with investors focused on whether the Federal Reserve will lift interest rates again before the year ends. Spot gold stood at $4,285.31 per ounce, the same level as before, while US gold futures contracts for December delivery also held steady at $4,321.40. The absence of movement suggests traders are waiting for clearer signals on the direction of US monetary policy rather than committing to new positions.[S1]
The other precious metals put in a mixed performance. Spot silver declined 0.6% to $64.08 per ounce, platinum was unchanged at $1,749.47, and palladium added 0.2% to reach $1,261.95. The split between a small gain for palladium, a modest loss for silver, and stability in platinum and gold reflects a market without a single dominant driver during the session.[S1]
