Widow's Bay Dominates with Record-Breaking 14 Emmys
Widow's Bay entered the 2026 Emmys with 19 nominations and left with a total of 14 wins, including six during the main ceremony. That total surpasses the previous record for a comedy series, which was set by The Studio last year. The Apple TV comedy-horror hybrid also earned Kate O'Flynn the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Patricia Moyer, the socially awkward assistant to Matthew Rhys's mayor Tom Loftis. O'Flynn, who described herself as a Lancashire lass, thanked the residents of Widow's Bay and dedicated the win to all the Patricias out there.[S1]
Rhea Seehorn Finally Wins, Michael J. Fox Honored
After six seasons of Better Call Saul without a single Emmy win, Rhea Seehorn finally took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Vince Gilligan's Pluribus. She played Carol, one of the few people not infected by an alien mind virus. Seehorn beat out Zendaya, Kerri Russell, Chase Infiniti, and Carrie Coon. Appearing genuinely shocked, she thanked Gilligan for giving her the role of a lifetime and for creating a space where artists can take risks. Michael J. Fox also received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his advocacy for people living with Parkinson's disease, and delivered a moving speech.[S1]
Awkward Moments: Opening Number and Red Carpet
Host Mariska Hargitay, a Law & Order star and not a comedian, opened the show with a parody of the Arrows' I Love Rock 'n' Roll titled I Love TV Screens. The number, which featured dancers with TV sets on their heads and cameos from Jalen Brunson and Jennifer Coolidge, fell flat. On the red carpet, an E! reporter asked Sally Field about her crush on Charlie Hunnam, and a photographer asked Sarah Michelle Gellar to kiss her Buffy costar David Boreanaz, to which she replied that his wife would not appreciate it. John Mulaney turned his presenting spot for Lead Actor in a Drama Series into a mini comedy special, delivering a rapid-fire rant about men finally being recognized. He also made a joke about DJ Khaled that was quickly censored. Tom Pelphrey was praised for his performance in Task as the doomed Delco trash man Robbie. Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz presented the award for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, referencing their Buffy days and the canceled reboot. Boreanaz said he always thought Buffy and Angel would end up together, and Gellar retorted that they would never find out.[S1][S2]
