A Candid Confession
Brad Pitt has disclosed that he has resumed drinking alcohol after maintaining sobriety for seven years. In an interview with Esquire magazine, the actor, now 62, said he drinks in moderation, as waking up with a hangover is no longer a priority for him. He made these remarks during a conversation about his latest film, 'In the Heart of the Beast,' but the discussion soon turned personal.[S1][S2]
The interview took place at Pitt's Los Angeles home, which he purchased last autumn. The journalist, Ryan D'Agostino, was offered fine cheeses, nuts, and seeds, and after they finished their mineral water, he asked about the glass of wine Pitt had offered upon arrival. Pitt surprised him by admitting the wine was for his own consumption.[S1][S2]
Relapse and Moderation
Pitt confessed, 'I was sober for seven years, and then I fell off the wagon,' as reported by D'Agostino. He explained that although he had some missteps when he resumed drinking, he now tries to control his intake, aware that he missed out on much due to alcohol in the past. He said he drinks in a more contained way, sometimes overconfident, but not in large quantities.[S1][S2][S3]
When the journalist remarked that he could have a glass of wine, Pitt responded that he could have a few, but not many, and that he must approach it professionally. He also shared that he enjoys sunrises and is unwilling to miss them due to the aftereffects of a night of drinking.[S1]
Dark Times and Regrets
Pitt also opened up about a dark period in his life when he considered suicide. He described the pain as so oppressive that he could feel the cold steel of a bullet in his head, which felt like relief. He said he understood suicide as a search for relief, but his survival instinct quickly kicked in.[S1][S2][S4]
Additionally, he expressed a desire to turn back time to his fifties to pursue projects he couldn't complete. He advised others to go after what they want now. His alcohol problems became public after his divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2016, and he received help from friend Bradley Cooper to stop drinking.[S1][S2]
