On the Frontline in Yemen's Desert War
The civil conflict in Yemen is unfolding on desert terrain, and its repercussions reach well beyond the country's borders. BBC correspondent Orla Guerin observed those effects directly, joining southern national security forces at front-line positions where they have been engaged in combat against Houthi fighters.[S1]
This civil war, fought over broad stretches of desert, has brought severe harm to both civilians and combatants. A single day at one military hospital in Aden saw over 50 wounded people brought in, according to its report; numerous of them had been shot, and some required amputations.[S1]
The challenges of fighting the Houthis have drawn attention from independent outlets, which have reported on why the battle is so difficult.[S2]
