Kelce's Football Commitment
Travis Kelce will not be present at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. The 36-year-old NFL player is skipping the ceremony because his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, is scheduled to play the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida. As a result, he will not be there to support his wife, Taylor Swift, at the awards show.[S1]

Swift earned 11 nods in all for the 2026 MTV VMAs, and the ceremony will also hand her the first-ever MTV VMA Artist Director Honors. A 13-second teaser for the video, shown Thursday on CBS Mornings, offered a glimpse of the famous faces joining her on screen. That preview arrived after she revealed the song on Instagram Tuesday, saying she had grown impatient to share that her new single, Patient Zero, arrives September 25. In another Instagram post Wednesday, she recalled how roughly a year earlier fans accomplished something she called truly unfathomable, handing The Life of a Showgirl the largest opening week any album has ever had, and she said the bonus tracks came from sheer thankfulness for how fans embraced and celebrated that record.[S1]
Past VMA Appearance
The couple, now married, skipped posing together on the red carpet at an earlier show, yet Kelce was seen seated beside Swift in the crowd for the whole night. Swift led all nominees and took home Pop Album of the Year for The Life of a Showgirl, and while accepting she offered Kelce a warm mention. Hearing her name called, she leaned over to kiss him as he rallied the room to stand and cheer.
