Production Paused in London
Filming on The Batman Part II has been temporarily halted while director Matt Reeves attends to a family matter, according to a statement from a DC Studios spokesperson. The studio expressed full support for Reeves and said it looks forward to resuming the project soon. The production had been shooting in London since June, following a development period in which the start date was repeatedly postponed as Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin worked on the screenplay.[S1][S2][S3][S4][S5][S6][S7][S8]
The sequel retains a release date of Feb. 18, 2028, and is regarded as a centerpiece of DC Studios' lineup, given that Batman is the company's most reliable box-office draw. Robert Pattinson leads the cast as Bruce Wayne and Batman, with Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan joining the franchise. Reeves directed 2022's The Batman, which earned $770.3 million worldwide and spawned the spinoff series The Penguin starring Colin Farrell. He also produced DC's upcoming Clayface film, focused on the Batman villain, which opens Oct. 23.[S1]
A Pause Amid a Studio Shake-Up
The halt in filming coincides with Skydance's completion of its takeover of Warner Bros., DC Studios' parent company, on Tuesday. DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are among the executives staying on under the new ownership, while Warner Bros. film chiefs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy are among those departing. The timing places the Batman sequel's pause against a broader realignment of the studio's leadership.[S1]
