Swift Crashes Johnson's Monologue
Pop icon Taylor Swift made an unexpected appearance on Saturday Night Live, stepping on stage during host Dakota Johnson's opening monologue. Swift addressed her role in Johnson's life, which Johnson had described as her literal therapist. Swift clarified that she is not actually Johnson's therapist, explaining that Johnson simply shows up once a week at her house with an empty bottle of wine and asks if she wants some. Johnson responded that she has manners.[S1][S2][S3][S4]
Swift then painted a picture of how an ordinary night with Johnson unfolds: Johnson sprawls across her sofa and shares far too much personal detail, while Swift now and then offers a flat reaction about how wild that sounds. Johnson, a standout in the Fifty Shades films, is featured in the new release Verity and shows up in the video for Swift's track Patient Zero. Johnson admitted that Swift's account of their hangouts really does fit the label of therapist.[S1]
Swift kept the joke going, explaining that once the hour grows late she announces she ought to head to bed, at which point Johnson eagerly proposes a sleepover. Still, Swift clarified that these evenings of wine do not wrap up with anyone staying over; instead they conclude with Pedialyte and a lift home courtesy of Swift's security team.[S1]
Birthday Cake and Curtain Call
Swift showed up once more as the show was taking its final bows, carrying a cake decorated in blue and white for Johnson, whose 37th birthday fell on Sunday. The broadcast ran on NBC, a unit of NBCUniversal, the same company that owns NBC News. Turnstile served as the episode's musical act.[S1]
