A finished script, and no rush to use it
Quentin Tarantino has said the screenplay for his tenth feature film is complete, but he is not moving straight into production. He made the remark during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, sitting alongside Ellen DeGeneres, Colin Farrell and Gemma Chan. It was his first time on the programme in over ten years. According to Tarantino, he is fond of the script he has produced, yet he intends to let the play occupy him first, then take time with his family and live a little before deciding what he wants to do.[S1][S2][S3][S4]
The director has repeatedly described the tenth film as his final one, which gives the finished draft unusual weight. Even so, his comments suggest no timetable for cameras to roll. The project remains a script rather than a scheduled release, and Tarantino presented the pause as a personal choice rather than a problem with the material.[S1][S2][S3][S4]
The Popinjay Cavalier takes centre stage
Before any film work resumes, Tarantino is focused on The Popinjay Cavalier, a stage production he described as beginning life as a screenplay before he concluded that it worked better as a play. He predicted audiences would find it thrilling. Sacha Baron Cohen leads the cast, and the show is set to open at London's Phoenix Theatre next March, with previews beginning in late February. It is billed as a swashbuckling comedy and is scheduled for a three-month run that ends on June 13.[S1]
When the production was announced, Tarantino issued a statement saying he was eager to give the West End a memorable evening out. The play now stands between him and his stated final film, and he has linked his next decision about the movie to how the theatrical run leaves him feeling about himself.[S1]
What came before
Tarantino's latest released film is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which arrived in 2019 with Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie and Margaret Qualley among its cast. Pitt took the Academy Award for best supporting actor, while Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh won for best production design. Tarantino was nominated for best picture and best director, and DiCaprio received a best actor nomination.[S1]
