The turnover reflects how SNL balances continuity with renewal, bringing in digital-native creators as it navigates a comedy landscape shaped by short-form video and streaming.

New Featured Players Join the Cast

Saturday Night Live has announced that Saidah Belo-Osagie and Grace Reiter will join the show as featured players for its 52nd season, which begins next weekend. The show shared the news Wednesday on Instagram, welcoming the pair to the cast. Belo-Osagie, a New Yorker from Queens, wrote and directed the short film Tinge, created the event series Afrobeats Futura, and performed a solo show called Saidah Gets Closure. She shared the show's post on her Instagram Story, calling the opportunity a dream come true.[S1][S2]

Grace Reiter, a native of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, is a co-writer, director, and star of the forthcoming Netflix comedy Minimum Wage, which follows teenagers operating a pizzeria. Netflix says the show adapts a 2024 online series that drew attention on TikTok and other platforms. Both new hires begin as featured players, a title that frequently transitions to repertory status in subsequent seasons.[S1][S2]

Chloe Fineman Departs After Seven Seasons

Chloe Fineman, a cast member since 2019 and the 45th season, revealed on July 16 that she was departing to pursue something different. In an Instagram post, she described leaving SNL as really hard while feeling like the right moment. Across seven seasons, Fineman did impressions of Drew Barrymore and Britney Spears and appeared in sketches and ad parodies including Domingo, Snackhomiez, and Forever 31. Deadline said she will appear in Myron Bolitar, a Netflix drama adapted from Harlan Coben's thrillers about a former basketball player turned sports agent.[S1][S2]

Cast Turnover and Season 52 Premiere

Sometimes the yearly cast churn is small, a sign that the program and its veteran executive producer, Lorne Michaels, are refining the cold open, sketches, and news segment. Every few years, a larger wave of on-air and writing staff exits signals an almost complete reset for SNL. Around and after the 50th season and its anniversary specials, notable names left, among them Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Bowen Yang. Other departing performers Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, and Emil Wakim carried the rookie-style featured player label, which often precedes repertory player status. Season 52 of SNL debuts Sept. 26 with New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson hosting and Katseye as musical guest. SNL airs on NBC, part of NBCUniversal, which also owns NBC News.[S1]
