The crash and its victims

Around 10 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, a Ford EcoSport driven by Oscar Luciano Pacheco, 66, rear-ended a Fiat Fiorino and then collided head-on with a Volkswagen Up on Almirante Brown avenue, between streets 106 and 108, in Punta Lara, Ensenada district. Municipal security cameras captured the impact. In the Fiorino, a family suffered the worst consequences: Iván Leonel Ledesma, 26, his partner Yazmin Jaimon, 24, and their two children, a 3-year-old girl and a 10-day-old baby, were injured. The baby, Tadeo Ledesma, was apparently ejected and died later at the Hospital de Niños de La Plata after being transferred from Hospital Cestino. The 3-year-old girl was also taken to that hospital. Three other people were injured: Silvia Garay, 57, Alejandro Ramón Contrera, 43, and Nerina Micaela García, 33.[S1][S2][S3]

Pacheco was detained and charged with negligent homicide by UFI No. 10 of La Plata. Authorities are investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol. After the crash, a crowd gathered at the scene, and police had to protect Pacheco from the tumult; some people threw objects at police vehicles, causing damage. The causes of the collision remain under investigation, and no official reconstruction has yet determined the maneuver or speed of each vehicle. The UFI 10 will rely on municipal camera footage, forensic examinations of the three vehicles, and witness statements to establish how the crash occurred and assign responsibility.[S1][S2][S3]

A mother's grief and public reaction

Yasmín Jaimon, the baby's mother, had shared her joy at Tadeo's birth on social media just days earlier. In a video with the newborn in her arms, she called it the best feeling in the world. On Sunday, before the crash, she wrote a message expressing her love for her son. After the tragedy, she posted a heartbreaking message on Facebook, saying she was not ready and that he had been taken from her arms unjustly. She asked for strength and said she would love him for the rest of her life. The family had also launched a prayer chain for the three injured, especially the 3-year-old girl, who was in delicate condition.[S1][S2]
