Birth in Lisbon
Princess Eugenie has given birth to a baby girl at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, Buckingham Palace announced. The child arrived on Monday, 3 August 2026, at 6.20pm, weighing 6lb 9oz (3kg). It is the princess's third child and first daughter with husband Jack Brooksbank. Her Royal Highness and Mr Brooksbank were delighted to announce the safe arrival, the Palace said, adding that the King and Queen were delighted to be informed.[S1][S2][S5]
Eugenie, 36, posted a photograph on Instagram of her newborn and wrote: 'Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie.' Her husband Jack Brooksbank took the photograph. The baby was seen in a pale pink babygrow and a white cap decorated with hearts and stars, and the couple have not yet decided on a name.[S1][S2][S3]
Line of succession and family home
The newborn, who will not be an HRH, is 15th in line to the throne, moving ahead of her great-uncle the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward. She is a younger sister to August, five, and Ernest, three. The baby is also the fifth grandchild for Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, the former Duke and Duchess of York.[S1][S2]
Unlike Eugenie's first two children, who were born at the Portland Hospital in London, the baby was delivered in Portugal. The couple split their time between Ivy Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace and the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club on the Portuguese coast, about an hour south of Lisbon. Brooksbank works in sales, marketing and promotion for the Discovery Land Company, helping to manage the CostaTerra development in Comporta.[S2][S3]
Pregnancy announcement and marriage
The couple announced the pregnancy in May, when Eugenie posted a photograph of August and Ernest holding a baby scan with the caption 'Baby Brooksbank due 2026!'. Buckingham Palace said at the time that the King had been informed and was delighted. Eugenie and Brooksbank married in October 2018, and their sons were born in February 2021 and May 2023.[S1][S4]
The princess is the younger daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson and a niece of King Charles III. When Andrew lost his titles, both of his daughters kept theirs, but neither is a working royal. Eugenie works as a director at the Hauser & Wirth art gallery in Mayfair, while Brooksbank has worked in hospitality and marketing.[S1][S5][S6]
Scrutiny and aftermath
The birth follows a difficult period for the York family because of renewed scrutiny linked to Jeffrey Epstein. King Charles stripped Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor of his royal titles, styles and honours in October last year. In February, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office over allegations that he shared sensitive information with Epstein while serving as the UK's trade envoy; he was later released and has not been charged.[S1][S2][S4]
Andrew has always denied wrongdoing. He now lives at Marsh Farm on the King's private Sandringham Estate after being evicted, along with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, from Royal Lodge in Windsor. Both Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have remained largely out of the spotlight since the Epstein scandal engulfed their parents.[S2]
