Tied at the top
Englishman Marco Penge and New Zealander Daniel Hillier will start the final round of the Husqvarna British Masters level at 11 under par, after darkness halted play on Saturday evening. The pair had completed five holes of their third round at The Belfry when the hooter sounded at 7:56 pm, leaving them with 30 holes to play on Sunday.[S1][S2]
Penge, who had led by one after 36 holes, extended his advantage with a birdie on the first, but Hillier responded by winning the next two holes to move ahead. Penge then levelled with a birdie on the fourth, and both players parred the fifth before play was suspended.[S1]
Chasing pack
Tom McKibbin from Northern Ireland, who entered the competition only after LIV Golf's Team Championship was called off, trails by one after birdies on two of his first six holes. Fabrizio Zanotti of Paraguay and Shaun Norris of South Africa are two strokes behind, with 12 and 13 holes left in their third rounds, respectively.[S2]
Jacob Skov Olesen from Denmark narrowed the gap to three shots with three birdies in his opening seven holes. Oliver Lindell from Finland and Nacho Elvira from Spain are also at eight under, with Elvira even par through six holes.[S1][S2]
Weather and schedule
Weather has plagued the tournament all week, but Saturday proceeded without interruption, allowing the second round to finish and the third to start. Play resumes at 7 a.m. local time on Sunday, with the final round using threeballs and a two-tee start, and no redraw.[S1][S2]
Heading into the last day, 19 players are separated by just five shots, setting up a close contest. Penge has called his season a 'nightmare' because of ear, neck, and nervous system issues that reduced his playing time and kept him out of the U.S. Open.[S2][S1]
Indian challenge
Shubhankar Sharma of India secured his place in the weekend with rounds of 69 and 71, tying for 13th at four under. He birdied the 4th and 17th in both rounds, demonstrating his ability to handle the tough conditions.[S3]
Fellow Indian Yuvraj Sandhu missed the cut after rounds of 71 and 77. Defending champion Hillier, who won this event in 2023, is seeking a second victory, while Penge leads the local challenge.[S3][S1]
