ICC Sanctions Pakistan for Slow Over-Rate
Pakistan received a penalty on Monday for a slow over-rate in its eight-wicket defeat to England in the third and final cricket Test. The International Cricket Council stated that Pakistan was 11 overs short of the required target once time allowances were factored in during the Edgbaston Test, which concluded on Saturday. Consequently, Pakistan was fined 50% of its match fee and had 11 points deducted from its World Test Championship total.[S1]
The ICC reported that match referee Ranjan Madugalle issued the sanction after on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Allahudien Palekar, and fourth umpire Russell Warren brought the charge. Pakistan now occupies the bottom position in the WTC standings, having won only two of its nine Test matches. The team has two more series remaining in this cycle: against Sri Lanka in November and against New Zealand in March 2027.[S1]
Pakistan's Struggles Continue After England Tour
Pakistan also finished last in the previous World Test Championship cycle and replaced its captain after a 2-0 loss to Bangladesh earlier this year. The situation deteriorated further during the England tour, with selectors removing seven players after the team lost the second Test by an innings and 194 runs at Headingley. Senior players Salman Ali Agha, Imam-ul-Haq, and Mohammad Rizwan were sent home following that match, before England completed a 3-0 series sweep.[S1]
