Resignation filed through the electronic registry
José Ignacio Landaluce Calleja has made his departure from the mayor's office of Algeciras official. According to a statement from the city council in the Cádiz municipality, the written resignation was entered into the local authority's electronic headquarters at 14:36 on Sunday, 25 October. The move follows through on the intention he had made public the previous Monday.[S1][S2][S3][S4]
Landaluce had governed the Andalusian municipality continuously since 11 June 2011, so the filing closes a tenure spanning well over a decade at the head of the local government.[S1]
Plenary to name Jacinto Muñoz as successor
The municipal corporation will settle the succession at a plenary session scheduled for Wednesday, 28 October. At that meeting the councillors are to select the next mayor, and the choice is expected to fall on Jacinto Muñoz Madrid, a member of the Partido Popular.[S1]
Landaluce keeps his powers until the plenary meets
Under article 40.4 of Real Decreto 2568/1986 of 28 November, which approves the regulation on the organisation, operation and legal regime of local entities, the outgoing mayor does not lose his position the moment he files. Landaluce therefore remains in office, retaining his competences, powers and attributions, until the full municipal corporation formally acknowledges the resignation.[S1]
