Kane's historic night in Munich
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scored twice on Friday to become the quickest player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, as his side crushed Union Berlin 7-0. The 33-year-old England captain converted a penalty in the 39th minute to make it 3-0, then added his second in the 54th, taking his tally to 101 goals in just 99 matches. The previous record for the fastest century was held by Dieter Müller, who needed 123 games for Cologne in the 1970s.[S1]
Jamal Musiala had given Bayern the lead in the 18th minute, and Michael Olise doubled the advantage in the 43rd. Olise went on to complete his hat-trick with goals in the 73rd and 76th, while Ismael Saibari also found the net. The win lifted Bayern to 10 points from four matches, one point ahead of Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund, who both have a game in hand. Kane's scoring rate since joining in 2023 stands at one goal every 78.3 minutes, better than Erling Haaland (87), Robert Lewandowski (100) and Gerd Müller (105).[S1]
Chelsea humbled by Brentford
In London, Chelsea were handed a 3-0 defeat by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago and Fabio Carvalho all scored in the second half as Brentford moved up to third in the Premier League with nine points from five games. Co-leaders Arsenal and Manchester City are three points clear and play on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Chelsea manager Alonso expressed his disappointment, saying the team lacked consistency and failed to compete for the full 90 minutes.[S1]
Monaco, Monza and Elche claim wins
In France, Monaco maintained their unbeaten start under new coach Filipe Luis with a 2-1 victory over Lens, staying top of Ligue 1. Paris Brunner put Monaco ahead in the 32nd minute, but Matthieu Udol equalised in the 57th. Jonathan Gradit's own goal in the 84th sealed the win. Brunner is still awaiting a likely sanction for a throat-slitting gesture during a goal celebration last weekend. In Italy, Gustavo Varela scored twice as Monza upset Sassuolo 2-1 for their first Serie A win of the season. Varela struck in the 51st and 63rd for the Biancorossi, who had lost three of their opening four matches. Vasilije Adžić pulled one back for Sassuolo in the 88th, but it was a disappointing night for a side coming off a 3-2 win over Juventus. In Spain, Elche overcame the early sending-off of Federico Redondo to climb off the bottom with a 3-1 win at Espanyol. Fer Nino scored twice and Germán Valera also struck, while Espanyol replied through an own goal from Víctor Chust. Elche now sit fourth-bottom, with Espanyol ninth.[S1]
