India Sets a Challenging Target
After winning the toss at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, India chose to bat and posted 211/6 in their 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma gave the defending champions a rapid start, striking 61 from 28 deliveries, a knock that included seven sixes and placed him level with Yuvraj Singh for the most sixes by an Indian batter in an India-Pakistan T20I innings. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi added 15 from nine balls before he was dismissed, and Tilak Varma finished unbeaten on 51, helping India plunder 69 runs from the final four overs to set Pakistan a target of 212.[S1]
Pakistan's Chase Falls Short
Pakistan's reply began with a 33-run opening stand between Maaz Sadaqat and captain Sahibzada Farhan, which ended when Washington Sundar removed Farhan. Hasan Nawaz then anchored the innings with a fighting 96 from 51 balls, hitting five fours and seven sixes, and shared an 87-run partnership with Saim Ayub. Despite Nawaz's efforts, India's bowling remained disciplined: Axar Patel, Shivam Dube and Sundar each claimed two wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi was the only bowler to struggle, conceding 44 runs from three overs. India ultimately restricted Pakistan to secure a 19-run victory.[S1]
Bowling Line-ups and Medal Impact
Both sides fielded largely spin-oriented attacks. India relied on a single specialist fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, alongside seamer Dube, with Patel, Sundar and Bishnoi providing the spin options. Pakistan similarly had Ahmed Daniyal as their only specialist pace bowler, while Sufiyan Muqeem and Abrar Ahmed led their spin attack. The win gave India their 81st medal and 19th gold of the 2026 Asian Games, and their second cricket gold of the tournament after the women's team successfully defended its title earlier. Pakistan's second silver of the Games lifted their total tally to eight medals.[S1]
