A Final Season and a Showrunner Departure
The third season of Daredevil: Born Again will be its last, according to sources. The decision emerged about two months after the Marvel Studios production completed filming. At the same time, Marvel has quietly separated from showrunner Dario Scardapane, whose contract expired and was not extended. His exit during post-production has drawn attention, and it remains unclear who will guide the show to completion. One source described post-production as being in its final stages. The series centers on Wilson Fisk, the criminal kingpin played by Vincent D'Onofrio, who becomes mayor of New York and then pursues Daredevil and other vigilantes. The second season, which aired in the spring, concluded with Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil and played by Charlie Cox, being sent to prison.[S1]
A Rocky Path From Netflix to Disney+
Since Disney+ brought the character back, Daredevil: Born Again has weathered a bumpy road. The original Netflix run spanned three seasons between 2015 and 2018. A July 2022 green light covered an 18-episode season, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord serving as head writers. When the 2023 strikes shut down filming, Marvel opted for a creative overhaul. Corman and Ord, who favored a lighter, more episodic approach than the Netflix show, departed. Dario Scardapane, previously a writer and executive producer on Marvel's Netflix Punisher series, stepped in as showrunner. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, whose credits include Loki and Moon Knight, came aboard to direct and executive produce. The original order was eventually divided into two seasons totaling 17 episodes, nine in the first and eight in the second.[S1]
Marvel Television's Shrinking Slate
Marvel Television has steadily trimmed how many Disney+ series it makes. VisionQuest, the closing installment of the WandaVision trilogy headlined by Paul Bettany, arrives in October. The last season of Daredevil: Born Again lands in 2027, and nothing seems planned past that point. Disney+ likewise walked back its Wonder Man renewal after first ordering a second season. Even so, the company usually keeps three to five live-action shows in the works, and insiders say a spy thriller called Zodiac was just approved. What that name refers to is uncertain, though the best-known Marvel comics connection is a crime syndicate run by a villain named Scorpio, with members named after constellations.
