A tight final decided by a handful of points
Top seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani claimed the Dongfeng • Voyah Wuhan Open doubles title on Sunday, beating third seeds and defending champions Storm Hunter and Katerina Siniakova in straight sets. The Canadian-Brazilian pair broke early in the opening set to lead 4-1, but Hunter and Siniakova recovered to level the score. Dabrowski and Stefani broke once more in the 12th game to take the first set 7-5.[S1][S2]
The second set followed a similar pattern: the top seeds converted two more break points while losing their own serve once, closing out the match 7-5, 6-4 after 1 hour and 32 minutes. Stefani later described the contest as one settled by a small number of moments and points, noting that a deuce point early on, where Hunter missed a backhand, allowed her team to gain momentum. She said that had the shot landed, the first set might have gone the other way and the match would have told a different story.[S1]
A season of consistency for the top seeds
The Wuhan trophy is the pair's sixth of the season, adding to titles in Dubai, Strasbourg, Eastbourne, Sao Paulo and Beijing the previous week. It is their eighth title together overall and their third in a row, and it lifted their career tour-level record to 79 wins against 19 losses. Individually, Dabrowski now has 26 career WTA Tour doubles titles, eight of them at WTA 1000 level, while Stefani owns 19 tour-level doubles titles, six at the same tier.[S1]
Both players have also secured their place at the season-ending WTA Finals, which will be held in Indian Wells next month. Dabrowski attributed the team's form to a full but carefully planned schedule and to what their coach calls relentlessness, a quality she said has been their aim throughout the year. She added that the pair still has several weeks of competition ahead and more to learn, and that they are keeping their focus on the events still to come.[S1]
Defending champions fall short in ninth event together
For Siniakova and Hunter, the final was their ninth tour-level tournament as a team. The duo has won two titles together, at the WTA 1000 event in Dubai in 2024 and in Wuhan in 2025, and holds a career record of 30 wins and six losses as a pairing. Their attempt to defend the Wuhan crown ended against opponents who converted their chances at the key moments of both sets.[S1]
