Noskova and Bouzkova Seal Czechia's Semifinal Spot
Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova each won their singles matches on Tuesday, carrying Czechia to a 2-0 victory over Britain and into the semifinals of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, China. Noskova, ranked sixth, clinched the tie by serving an ace on her first match point to defeat Katie Boulter 6-2, 7-6 (3). She finished the match with 15 aces, compared with four from Boulter.[S1]
Earlier in the day, Bouzkova overcame Sonay Kartal 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-4 to give Czechia the opening point. Karolina Muchova, who lost to Noskova in an all-Czech Wimbledon final this year, had been scheduled to play a decisive doubles match alongside Katerina Siniakova, but the best-of-three series was already decided. Siniakova holds the No. 1 ranking in doubles.[S1]
Semifinal and Davis Cup Draws
Czechia, formerly known as the Czech Republic, sits second on the all-time list with 11 titles in the competition previously called the Fed Cup. The United States, which did not qualify for this year's finals, leads with a record 18 titles. In the semifinals, Czechia will meet either Spain or Kazakhstan, who play on Wednesday. The remaining quarterfinals pit two-time defending champion Italy against China and Ukraine against Belgium.[S1]
In the draw for the Davis Cup Final 8, South Korea was paired with three-time defending champion Italy after becoming the first Asian nation to qualify under the new format. Spain, the 2025 runner-up, drew Austria. Czechia, which eliminated the 32-time champion United States in the final qualifying round, will face 2022 champion Canada, while Alexander Zverev's Germany takes on Britain. The Final 8 is set for Bologna, Italy, from Nov. 24-29.[S1]
