A record-setting night in Portland

Memphis Grizzlies rookie Cameron Boozer posted a triple-double on Thursday night at 19 years and 103 days old, making him the second-youngest player in NBA history to reach the mark. The 2026 draft's third overall pick, currently the youngest player in the league, totaled 18 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists as Memphis won 124-103 on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers.[S1][S2][S4]

Only Josh Giddey has recorded a triple-double at a younger age. Giddey was 19 years and 84 days old on Jan. 2, 2022, when he finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists in an Oklahoma City Thunder loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Boozer's line, by contrast, came in a victory, making him the youngest player ever to post a triple-double in a win.[S1]

The result also pushed the Grizzlies to a 5-0 start, only the second such opening in franchise history after the 2014-15 season. The matchup brought together two of the league's last three undefeated teams, with the Houston Rockets the only other club still without a loss.[S1][S5]

Where Boozer's line fits in the record book

At 6-foot-8 and 250 pounds, Boozer also became the youngest frontcourt player to record a triple-double. The previous holder was San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, who was 20 years and 6 days old on Jan. 10, 2024, when he posted 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a road win over the Detroit Pistons.[S1]

Boozer achieved the feat in just his fifth NBA game. The only other players to do so within their first five appearances were Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson in 1960 with the Cincinnati Royals, former NBA champion Art Williams in 1967 with the San Diego Rockets, and one-time All-NBA selection Ben Simmons in 2017 with the Philadelphia 76ers.[S1]

The performance drew wide attention, with outlets framing it as the rookie's first career triple-double and as a historic night that came at the expense of Ja Morant's former team. Memphis returns to action on Saturday night, when it hosts the 0-5 Sacramento Kings.[S3][S4][S6]
