Milwaukee's dominant run falls short of favorite status

Milwaukee controlled Major League Baseball in 2026, winning 103 regular-season games and then claiming the World Series with an 11-2 record in the postseason. Across the regular season and playoffs the Brewers finished 114-61. They had opened the 2026 campaign at 20/1, and their title came through player development, roster construction, defense, disciplined hitting and a strong pitching staff.[S1]

Even so, the sportsbook BetOnline placed the Brewers second on its first 2027 board at 5/1. That price implies roughly a 16.7% chance of a repeat before the book's margin is applied. Milwaukee now tries to become the first club to win back-to-back championships since the Dodgers did it in 2024 and 2025.[S1][S2][S3]

Los Angeles leads the board after an NLCS sweep

The Dodgers top all 30 clubs at 13/4, or +325, a figure that translates to an implied probability of about 23.5% before the sportsbook's built-in margin. Los Angeles had chased a third straight title, something no team had achieved since the Yankees from 1998 through 2000, but Milwaukee swept it in four games in the National League Championship Series.[S1][S7]

A roster built around Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, backed by deep financial resources and a readiness to spend in free agency, keeps Los Angeles in its familiar position as a preseason favorite. The club will be seeking its third championship in four seasons after the early playoff exit.[S1]

The rest of the odds board

The Yankees are third at 15/2 (+750), followed by the Boston Red Sox at 12/1, the Seattle Mariners at 18/1 and the Philadelphia Phillies at 20/1. The New York Mets and Tampa Bay Rays are tied at 22/1, while the San Diego Padres sit at 25/1 alongside the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Guardians.[S1]

At the bottom, the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants are both listed at 200/1, and only the Colorado Rockies, at 500/1, carry longer odds. The Cincinnati Reds were also described elsewhere as a long shot for the next title.[S1][S6]
