Birrell Claims Maiden WTA Crown in Seoul
Kimberly Birrell secured her first WTA singles title on Sunday, overcoming fellow Australian Maya Joint 6-4, 6-2 in the Korea Open final in Seoul. The 60th-ranked Birrell, seeded second, began slowly and dropped her opening service game to trail 0-2. She then won four consecutive games and served out the first set without trouble.
