Affleck reflects on Justice League
Ben Affleck has said that working on Justice League was the low point of his career. In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he explained that the experience was extremely negative for several reasons, including his personal state at the time, a tragedy that occurred during production, and what he saw as a fundamental mistake: the studio being at odds with the filmmaker. He argued that such a conflict dooms a film.[S1][S2][S3][S4][S5][S6][S7][S8]
After Batman v Superman disappointed at the box office, Warner Bros. felt pressure to make Zack Snyder's Justice League lighter and more appealing. During post-production, Snyder suffered a family tragedy, and the studio brought in Joss Whedon to handle reshoots, which significantly altered the film's story and tone. Affleck described the reshoots as a terrible experience and said that if someone wanted to know the low point of his career, that was it.[S1]
Affleck also spoke about how the tragedy was handled, saying that a death by suicide overshadows everything and that he thought it was used as an excuse. He called it one of the worst things he had ever seen and described the overall environment as gross. He mentioned hearing secondhand about the experiences of Ray Fisher, Gal Gadot, and others, and said the situation was as bad as it gets.[S1]
