A Loyalty Day statement that revives a founding episode
Argentina's Partido Justicialista used the October 17 Loyalty Day commemoration to draw a parallel between the current position of former president Cristina Kirchner and the 1945 detention of Juan Domingo Perón. In a party statement, it recalled how crowds of workers marched to Plaza de Mayo that day to demand Perón's release, an episode it described as the moment Peronism was born.[S1][S2][S3][S4][S5][S6][S7]
According to the text, history is posing its questions once again. The party said Kirchner is being held at San José 1111 under a restricted visiting regime, and it went on to dispute the conviction against her, which it characterized as lacking evidence.[S1]
The party calls the ban the real target
The Partido Justicialista argued that the perpetual disqualification from public office is the actual purpose of what it termed a persecution. In its words, the matter is not about justice but about proscription, and it accused those in power of trying to stop voters from choosing the most significant opposition political leader.[S1][S6]
With that framing, the party appealed to its members, its organizations, workers and what it called every democratic sector of the country. It asked them to take on a historic responsibility by demanding Kirchner's liberty and an end to her exclusion from electoral competition.[S1][S2][S3][S4][S5][S7]
