Record Kick in the Alps
Adam Vinatieri, the NFL's all-time leader in field goals, added a new accolade on Tuesday: a Guinness World Record for the highest field goal ever made. The kick took place at an altitude of 11,332 feet (3,434 meters) above sea level in the Swiss Alps, at a location called Jungfraujoch, often referred to as the 'Top of Europe.' A Guinness World Records adjudicator was present to certify the achievement.[S1]
The conditions were far from typical for an NFL kicker. Vinatieri kicked on snow-covered ground with swirling winds, factors that added to the difficulty. He described the experience as unlike anything he had done before, noting that the altitude affected his breathing, heart rate, and rhythm. He also pointed out that no one could predict how the thin air would influence the kick, since it had never been attempted at such a height.[S1]

The event served as the kickoff for the New England Patriots' countdown to their game in Munich on Nov. 15. It also celebrated Vinatieri's legendary career, which included a long stint with the Patriots. Vinatieri last played in the NFL in 2019, retiring as the league's all-time leader with 599 field goals.
