Three Ways to Gain Anthropic Exposure Before Its IPO

Investors can tap Anthropic through backers, pre-IPO brokerage access, or the companies selling it AI infrastructure.

Anthropic's eventual listing could reshape how retail investors access the leading AI companies, and the pre-IPO routes show how much of that access now runs through Big Tech balance sheets and private brokerage arrangements.

Big Tech Backers Offer Indirect Exposure

Anthropic is positioned to become one of the most in-demand IPO stocks. After SpaceX reached a $2 trillion valuation, investors are speculating about what Anthropic might be worth when it lists later this year. But waiting for the IPO is not the only path. Two creative routes let investors increase their exposure to the leading AI company before its shares trade publicly.[S1]

Several of the largest technology companies moved before retail investors could. Alphabet, Amazon and Salesforce are among the firms that have invested in Anthropic. Their holdings in the AI company are large enough to affect each company's reported earnings. Anyone following this strategy must also evaluate the main business, because Alphabet, Amazon and Salesforce each carry catalysts and risks that extend well beyond their Anthropic stakes. The approach provides only limited exposure and is not equivalent to owning Anthropic shares directly, but it is available now rather than after the IPO.[S1]

Pre-IPO Access Through Brokerage Accounts

An expanding set of brokerage platforms now allows people to acquire IPO shares ahead of the official listing day. This channel was widely used for SpaceX, and the same providers that arranged pre-IPO SpaceX purchases will probably extend that option to Anthropic. Such shares are available solely through a standard brokerage account, never inside a retirement plan. Buyers might also have to satisfy minimum account balances or place a minimum order to be allocated shares. When demand exceeds the pre-IPO allocation, an order may go unfilled.[S1]

Following Anthropic's Spending Into AI Infrastructure

A third inventive approach is to track where Anthropic spends its money. The company has pledged over $100 billion to Amazon Web Services and has been buying AI chips at a rapid pace. As Anthropic's revenue climbs, a larger share of its capital is anticipated to move into essential AI infrastructure and components. One illustration: Anthropic agreed to a 20-year lease with TeraWulf covering a 401-megawatt data center location. Similar arrangements could proliferate as Anthropic's need for AI capacity escalates.[S1]

Multiple stocks stand to benefit from Anthropic's growth. Those same companies may also gain from rising AI capacity needs at OpenAI, hyperscalers, AI labs and various start-ups. Buying such stocks while their market caps are low could potentially unlock sizable gains.[S1]
