A Sunday afternoon crash in the brush
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, five people — three adults and two minors — were trapped in the wreckage of a light aircraft that came down on wooded ground in the south of Córdoba city. The plane, a Piper Comanche 250 registered LV-GSG, fell in an area of thick vegetation near Avenida Ciudad de Valparaíso, around kilometer 9.5, close to the Coronel Olmedo neighborhood aerodrome. Everyone on board survived, but several occupants were hurt and had to be taken to different hospitals in the provincial capital.[S1]
According to sources familiar with the case, the first sign of what had happened came from residents of the area, who alerted police to a plane down in the brush. Among those who responded before any official team were Ezequiel and Lucas Asoli, two young men who were traveling through the area when relatives told them about the crash. They went into the vegetation without delay and oriented themselves by the shouts of one of the children.[S1]
Guided by a child's voice
The Asoli brothers told Cadena 3 that they entered the middle of the brush, that a boy answered them by shouting, and that they used that to find their way. When they arrived, they said, they found a boy on top of a wing with a cut on his head.[S1][S2]
Reaching the site was hard: the wooded ground and dense native vegetation slowed both residents and emergency teams on their way to the fuselage. Witnesses said the aircraft plowed roughly 50 meters through the plants before stopping against a tree. To get the pilot out, rescuers had to remove the cabin roof. The Asoli brothers described the plane as small, built for three, yet carrying five people.[S1][S2]
Rescue, injuries and the flight's legality
The rescue operation involved police personnel, members of the Provincial Fire Department's General Subdirectorate and crews from the 107 emergency service. After being treated at the scene, the two minors were taken to the Hospital de Niños while conscious and were admitted there. The three adults, whose injuries included a suspected broken arm, head cuts and various blows, were sent to the San Roque and Urgencias hospitals. So far there is no official information on the health status of any of those involved.[S1][S2]
The Piper Comanche 250 is a low-wing single-engine plane with retractable landing gear and an official capacity of four passengers. That five people were traveling aboard is one of the central points the investigation must establish. Jurisdiction and the technical inquiry
On the judicial side, the case was initially filed with an on-duty provincial prosecutor's office. Because it is an aviation accident, however, the proceedings must be transferred to the competent federal prosecutor's office. The technical investigation will rest with the Junta de Seguridad en el Transporte (JST). The crash site remains cordoned off under the custody of the provincial police while the start of forensic work is awaited.[S1][S2]
