Colapinto's early exit
Franco Colapinto's Singapore Sprint ended almost as soon as it began. The Argentine driver suffered technical problems with his Alpine and had to retire from the race, climbing out of his car as the field continued without him. The retirement came in the final Sprint Race of the Formula 1 season, denying him the chance to fight for positions in the short-format event.[S1][S4][S5]
Colapinto later described the abandonment as a lost opportunity and expressed his disappointment, saying it was a shame. He added that his attention was already turning to qualifying, where he would have another chance to perform. The DNF added to a difficult weekend for the Alpine driver, who had been hoping to use the Sprint to gain ground.[S1]
Verstappen masters the rain
Max Verstappen won the Singapore Sprint, navigating treacherous wet conditions that turned the race into a chaotic affair. The Dutch driver kept his composure as rain battered the Marina Bay circuit, taking victory while others faltered. It was a commanding performance in a race that punished even small errors.[S3][S4][S6][S7][S8]
The Sprint was marked by nine retirements, a unusually high number caused by the slippery track and the resulting incidents. Fernando Alonso finished 11th, avoiding the worst of the chaos but unable to challenge for points. The high attrition rate reshuffled the order and left several teams dealing with damage and lost opportunities.[S8]
