The 2026 summer transfer window in England closed at 11pm on September 1, with Premier League clubs setting a new record for total spending. The previous record of £3.14 billion, set last summer, was surpassed during this window, according to reports. The deadline for Scottish Premiership and WSL clubs was later, on September 3.[S1][S2]
Deadline day was particularly frenetic, with Manchester City completing the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125 million and Iliman Ndiaye from Everton for £65 million. Tottenham also secured Mykhailo Mudryk on loan from Chelsea, while Everton brought back Jack Grealish on another loan from City.[S1][S2]
Major moves across leagues
Other notable Premier League deals included Taylor Harwood-Bellis moving from Southampton to Aston Villa for £30 million, and Ibrahim Mbaye joining Villa from PSG for £47 million. Chelsea also sold Tosin Adarabioyo to Spurs for £10 million and loaned Robert Sanchez to Como. Arsenal loaned Ethan Nwaneri to Borussia Dortmund and sold Gabriel Jesus to Barcelona for £8.6 million.[S1]
In the Championship, Reo Hatate moved from Celtic to Burnley, while Callum O'Hare joined Wrexham from Sheffield United for £7 million. League One and League Two also saw numerous loans and permanent deals, including Dane Scarlett moving from Spurs to Leyton Orient.
