Pastrnak leads Boston's offensive surge
David Pastrnak recorded his first two goals of the season and added two assists as the Boston Bruins defeated the Utah Mammoth 6-1 on Thursday night. Pastrnak opened the scoring with a power-play wrist shot with 5:38 remaining in the first period, assisted by Frederic Brunet and Morgan Geekie. He then added a power-play slap shot 4:40 into the second period, with Geekie and Hampus Lindholm providing the assists.[S1][S4][S5]
Matthew Poitras, Casey Mittelstadt, Mason Lohrei and Morgan Geekie also scored for Boston, which built a 3-0 lead after the first period and extended it to 6-0 after two. Goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 36 saves to earn the win. The Bruins converted three power-play opportunities, while Utah failed to score with the man advantage, and Boston blocked 23 shots.[S1]
Utah's struggles continue in Boston
Jack McBain scored for the Mammoth midway through the third period, ending Swayman's shutout bid. Utah goaltender Karel Vejmelka stopped 11 of the 14 shots he faced before being replaced by Sebastian Cossa, who made five saves in relief. The Mammoth, who were routed 6-1, next visit the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.[S1]
