New venture announced
Reigning Formula 1 champion Lando Norris has announced the creation of his own racing team, LN4 Fusion, aimed at supporting young drivers progressing through junior categories toward F1. The McLaren driver made the announcement on Wednesday, ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.[S1]
The team will feature Norris's helmet design in black and neon yellow-green as its livery. Starting in 2027, LN4 Fusion will compete in Formula 3, Italian Formula 4, and the Formula Regional European Championship, with future plans to enter Formula 2.[S1]
Norris's vision and involvement
Norris emphasized that the project is long-term, not just a short-term endeavor. He expressed a desire to stay deeply involved in racing and to have a team he can feel part of, describing it as a family and cars he can support on TV.[S1]
Having signed a new contract with McLaren through 2030, Norris has hired experienced managers from junior racing series to run the team day-to-day. LN4 Fusion states that Norris will play an active role in shaping the team's identity and culture.[S1]
Supporting young talent
In addition to the team, Norris is establishing the LN4 Legacy Programme to provide financial backing to young drivers who might otherwise lack the resources to fulfill their potential. He acknowledged his own good fortune in having family support during his journey.[S1]
Norris is not the first F1 champion to expand into other racing series. Max Verstappen has competed for his own sportscar team, and Jack Brabham won a title driving for his own team, which competed in F1 for 30 years.[S1]
