Airport to Bear Parton's Name
According to Nashville's News Channel 5, the city's international airport will bear the name of Dolly Parton, who has died. Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee announced this late last month, and the Airport Authority board for the city subsequently gave unanimous approval to the renaming. The push had begun even before Parton passed away at 80. Officials have yet to reveal what the airport will be called.[S1]
For the renaming to go forward, the Nashville Airport Authority reportedly needed to revise a rule stating that a person had to have been deceased for two years before an airport could carry their name. The airport keeps its three-letter identifier, BNA, drawn from Col. Harry S. Berry, one of its original builders. The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce will also bestow a posthumous recognition on Parton next week.[S1]
