A World Series run gives Milwaukee a national spotlight and a concentrated surge of spending for small businesses, hotels and restaurants, while city leaders hope the exposure translates into future investment and return visits.

A City Gears Up for the World Series

As the Milwaukee Brewers get ready for the World Series, businesses and tourism officials across the city are preparing for a large celebration and a substantial economic windfall. Visit Milwaukee Chief Marketing Officer Josh Albrecht said a typical Brewers home playoff game brings in roughly $5 million, but a World Series home game could generate between $10 million and $15 million. Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 CEO Matt Dorner said the city expects tens of thousands of fans, with bars, restaurants and hotels all preparing for the influx.[S1][S2]

Dorner described the civic pride surrounding the team as remarkable and said the series offers Milwaukee a chance to show itself off, back small businesses and possibly attract future investment and repeat visitors. He stressed how much the moment means for food and beverage operators and hotels, and equally for the exposure the city receives. The city is leaning into the occasion with Brewers-themed posters for businesses and residents, flags, blue-and-gold building wraps downtown and a banner outside City Hall.[S1]

Third Ward Beer Garden Plans a Block Party

At the Third Ward Beer Garden, proprietor Dave Hock is organizing a block-party-style viewing experience featuring video monitors, food trucks and appearances by national podcasts, including Fox One, which is traveling in from Los Angeles. Hock, a longtime Brewers fan, said the World Series is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to celebrate the team, and he expects the atmosphere to translate into sales. He wants suburban fans to come downtown and join the celebration.[S1]

The beer garden intends to stay open from noon until 11 p.m., giving supporters a downtown gathering spot to watch the Brewers. Hock said the mood around the city is excellent and that it is a great moment for Milwaukee. Visit Milwaukee has also partnered with the Brewers on an online playoff guide that includes hotel details, watch parties, tailgating options and an itinerary featuring Christian Yelich.[S1]
