Milei's Sharp Criticism of the UK
In a national broadcast on Thursday, President Javier Milei launched harsh criticism against the United Kingdom, asserting that it is on a path of decline while Argentina has a flourishing future. He emphasized this contrast, stating that the UK faces multiple crises of a migratory, demographic, and economic nature that are unlikely to find solutions, while Argentina's future is bright and will prevail.[S1][S2]
Call to Friends of Argentina
Milei also made an appeal to the 'friends of Argentina' not to look the other way when sovereignty is violated and resources are taken. He stressed that the country has forged close ties with like-minded nations over the past three years, with a convergence of interests, and now trusts that these allies will stand by Argentina in its legitimate and peaceful claim.[S1]
US Reevaluation on the Falklands
The President thanked the United States, noting that the country of Donald Trump is evaluating a change in its position regarding the Falklands because it knows it has a reliable partner in Argentina, aligned with Western values and in a position of strategic relevance. Milei highlighted that the US is reassessing its historical stance, and this threat is not innocuous, as Washington sees Argentina as a valuable ally for the coming decades.[S1][S2]
International Support and Winds of Change
Milei pointed out that over the last three years, his government has driven the claim based on the country's new geopolitical relevance, obtaining 18 resolutions and declarations from international organizations and forums in support of the claim and presenting more than 60 formal proposals against unilateral actions by the UK. He affirmed that favorable winds are blowing in the world for the sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands.[S2]
