Washington Meeting Focuses on Security and Investment
Buenos Aires Mayor Jorge Macri met with Christopher Landau, US Deputy Secretary of State, in Washington D.C. on Monday. Their conversation covered security, economic growth and investments, as well as the place of Argentina and Buenos Aires in a relationship that currently holds a central position for the region. The meeting took place as the United States refocuses on key regional challenges, including security, defense of sovereignty, combating drug trafficking and strengthening economies.[S1][S2]
Macri described the meeting as very important and said they discussed the change of direction Argentina is undertaking and the need to sustain it by providing certainty, predictability and guarantees that the country will not return to the past. He added that from the PRO party they promote and accompany that change, and that deepening a mature and solid relationship with the United States is part of the correct path to attract investments, generate employment and give the country the opportunities it deserves. They also talked about the city's management and the importance of law and order as an indispensable condition for living in freedom, with security, clear rules and real opportunities to progress.[S1]
Macri Highlights Regional Order and Accompanied by Officials
The mayor stressed the importance of moving toward a region with more order, respect for law enforcement, respect for property and conditions that allow generating trust, attracting investments and sustaining growth. He was accompanied by Fulvio Pompeo, Secretary General and International Relations; Gabriel Sánchez Zinny, Chief of Staff; and national deputy Cristian Ritondo. In this scenario, the City of Buenos Aires is a central actor in the relationship between Argentina and the United States. As the country's capital and main political and economic center, it has its own role in an agenda that links both countries and addresses central issues for the future.[S1]
Additional Agenda Includes Business and Mayoral Meeting
As part of his agenda in Washington D.C., the mayor is scheduled to meet with businesspeople and financial sector leaders together with Citibank, focusing on Buenos Aires' transformations, investment and business opportunities, and Argentina's economic scenario. There will also be a meeting with Muriel Bowser, Mayor of Washington D.C., to address the relationship between both capitals and opportunities for exchange and cooperation between Buenos Aires and Washington.[S1]
