Wake and cremation arrangements confirmed

Following confirmation of Antonio Grimau's death at 82, the Argentine Association of Actors and Actresses announced when and where the public farewell will take place. Family members, friends, colleagues and followers will be able to pay their respects on Tuesday, October 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Zuccotti Hermanos funeral home, located at Avenida Córdoba 5080 in the City of Buenos Aires. The ceremony will continue on Wednesday, October 21, at 1 p.m. at the crematorium of the Chacarita Cemetery, where the final goodbye will be held.[S1][S2]

The association issued a statement mourning the actor and stressing the solid career he built on stages and screens, which it described as part of the history of Argentine entertainment. It also expressed condolences to his loved ones. Separately, Carlos Rottemberg remembered Grimau through the Multiteatro's social media accounts, describing him as one of the unforgettable leading figures of Argentine television who also made his mark in serious theater, and as an excellent person, a great colleague and a born actor.[S1]

A career spanning more than six decades

Born on March 10, 1944, in Remedios de Escalada under the name Antonio Rebolini, Grimau discovered his artistic calling at 16 and went on to build an extensive career that made him one of the most recognizable faces on Argentine television. Among his best-remembered works are the fiction series Trampa para un soñador, Dos a quererse and Soy gitano, as well as his portrayal of Sandro in Sandro de América, a role that brought his work closer to new generations of viewers.[S1]

His death prompted numerous farewell messages from colleagues and entertainment figures, who highlighted both his acting talent and his human qualities, noting the mark he left on different generations of audiences. The outpouring reflected a career that extended across television, film and Argentine theater and that remained present in the public's memory long after his best-known roles first aired.[S1][S2]

Health history and tributes from colleagues

Grimau died on Monday, October 19, at 11 p.m., according to reporting that also detailed his recent health. He had been hospitalized since Thursday at the Hospital María Ferrer, a center specializing in respiratory diseases, and was in intensive care from that day. According to TN Show, he suffered from diffuse interstitial lung disease (EPID), a condition that affects the lungs and can cause breathing difficulties.[S2]

It was not the first time the actor faced a delicate health situation. In 2021 he was hospitalized for nearly two months after contracting the coronavirus; his condition was serious and he required respiratory assistance. After being discharged, he said he had lost 22 kilos and had to go through an extensive recovery. Among the figures who paid tribute on social media was Susana Giménez, who posted a video of the final greeting from Piel de Judas, the play she starred in alongside the actor, and accompanied the images with emotional words in which she recalled him as a brilliant, highly professional performer who was always ready to work with a warm smile.[S2]
