The case adds to the toll of motorcycle deaths on Argentina's rural highways, where young riders share fast roads with heavy trucks, and it puts pressure on local police to establish exactly how the collision occurred.

What happened on Route 34

The crash took place before dawn on Saturday on National Route 34, close to the town of Icaño in Avellaneda department, Santiago del Estero province. Two young women were travelling on a motorcycle when a truck struck them, according to the first reports. One of the riders, aged 18, died; the other sustained serious injuries.[S1][S2]

After the impact, the more severely hurt teenager was rushed to a health centre, where medical staff confirmed she had died despite attempts to save her. The second occupant of the motorcycle was also treated for significant injuries.[S1]

Investigation and open questions

Preliminary inquiries suggest the two young women may have been trying to cross the highway when the collision with the large vehicle occurred, though police stress that this version still has to be confirmed through the formal proceedings. The causes of the crash remain under investigation.[S1]

Officers from Community Police Station No. 55 in Icaño attended the scene and are handling the case, working to reconstruct the circumstances of the fatal accident. No further details about the truck, its driver or the identities of the victims have been released.[S1]
