Viral Hits Night Results and Elimination
Dancing With the Stars season 35 staged its Viral Hits Night on Tuesday, the third episode overall and the second week of competition following a special two-night premiere. Competing couples performed routines inspired by internet-breaking songs and moments, as ABC described. By the end of the episode, Giada De Laurentiis and her partner Alan Bersten were eliminated from the competition. The remaining celebrities are Tatyana Ali, Tyler Cameron, Jenna Dewan, Ezra French, Amber Glenn, Taylor Hanson, Maura Higgins, Ciara Miller, Jackson Olson, Guillermo Rodriguez, Harry Shum Jr., Julia Stiles and Connor Wood.[S1]
The premiere's first night, held last Tuesday, featured the male contestants, and Conner Leavitt was the one cut. The following evening belonged to the women, with Sarah Jane Nader becoming the second celebrity to leave the competition. On the latest episode, Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy launched the show with a Jive set to Katseye's Animal, scoring 21/30 to grab the early advantage. Ciara Miller and Brandon Armstrong were right behind at 18/30 for a Tango to No Broke Boys by Disco Lines and Tinashe. Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach equaled the night's best mark, collecting three sevens for their Cha Cha to Flo Rida's Low, which earned a standing ovation.[S1]
After Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik performed a Foxtrot to Billie Eilish's What Was I Made For?, host Alfonso Ribeiro revealed that Viral Hits Night had already drawn more fan votes than both premieres. Just before the eliminated couple was named, he added that the vote total also surpassed that of the season 34 DWTS finale. Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov then tied the top leaderboard score of 21/30 with a Tango to All the Things She Said by Harrison, a tribute to Heated Rivalry. That left Jenna, Ezra and Amber tied at the top; Maura Higgins was close behind with 19/30. Giada De Laurentiis and Guillermo Rodriguez ended at the bottom, each with 12/30.[S1]
Each episode ends with the duo holding the smallest combined tally of judges' points and audience votes being sent home. Fans can cast live votes while the East Coast feed airs, and balloting shuts down a short time after the last routine. Those on the West Coast wanting to participate need to submit their choices from 5 p.m. PT until about 6:45 p.m. PT. Dancing With the Stars season 35 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m., shown simultaneously on ABC and Disney+, then arrives on Hulu the following day.[S1]
