Surgery and return to the San Cayetano prison
Leonardo Cositorto, who led the Generación Zoe scheme and has been convicted of fraud in two provinces, is recovering at the San Cayetano prison in Corrientes after undergoing an operation for necrosis in the genital area. The condition arose from poor blood circulation caused by his diabetes. On the morning of Wednesday, October 14, he was taken from the prison to the José Ramón Vidal hospital in the city of Corrientes for what was described as a risky procedure.[S1][S2]
The operation involved cleaning the affected tissue and carried the possibility of removing part of it, and the postoperative period was expected to require several days in hospital. Cositorto, 56, ultimately returned to the Corrientes facility, where he is serving a 12-year sentence for illicit association and fraud in that province. He is being held in Pavilion 14 of Penal Unit No. 6.[S1][S2]
Defense complaint over medical care
His lawyer, Aixa Petriati, has argued that the medical attention her client requires is extremely poor and has for months been pointing to shortcomings in his care. She said Cositorto's diabetes went untreated inside the prison. The defense position is that his health warrants house arrest, but the Superior Court of Justice of Corrientes denied that request.[S1][S2]
Fraud convictions in Corrientes and Salta
Beyond the Corrientes sentence, Cositorto was sentenced in July 2025 to 11 years in prison in Salta for repeated fraud and illicit association. Generación Zoe presented itself as a financial structure for savers but proved to be a fraudulent organization that wiped out the savings of more than 15,000 people between 2021 and 2022 through a pyramid scheme reaching $776 million, with victims in Córdoba, Corrientes, Salta and Santa Fe as well as in countries including Mexico and Colombia.[S1][S2]
