Colbert's Late Night Comeback

Stephen Colbert sat down with Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday, his first late-night appearance since The Late Show wrapped a few months back. Kimmel remarked that Colbert looked both happier and healthier, prompting Colbert to quip about skipping a daily glass of poison. Colbert added that he now has the chance to avoid dwelling on the news each day, and he decided to take it.[S1][S2]

Kimmel congratulated Colbert on The Late Show winning seven Emmy Awards on Monday, including best variety series. When Kimmel asked if anyone from CBS had called to congratulate him, Colbert cracked that he is not familiar with that organization. The network did send him 40 suits he wore during the show after canceling it earlier this year, which Colbert said are sitting in a guest bedroom and he does not know what to do with them.[S2]

Beard Shaving and Anecdotes

Across roughly 20 minutes, the pair traded stories, including one about a wedding they both attended where red wine ended up on Colbert's tan suit, and another about a New Zealand traffic stop in which a cordial officer pulled Colbert over for speeding. Colbert acted out that encounter with his son John, who phoned in to play the officer. Kimmel then proposed Colbert shave the beard he'd grown over the summer while also writing a movie.[S1]
