A city lit for the pontiff
Buenos Aires will illuminate a series of monuments and facades in tribute to Pope Leo XIV's visit, with the display beginning at 20:00 on Sunday and ending on Thursday 12 November, the day after the pontiff continues his Latin American trip toward Lima, Peru. The city government announced the plan and said a live broadcast will open with the Obelisco before moving to other sites.[S1][S2][S3][S4][S5]
The broadcast will include the Floralis Genérica, the Planetario Galileo Galilei, the Teatro Colón, the Puente de la Mujer, the Usina del Arte, the Cabildo, the Torre Monumental de los Ingleses and the Torre Espacial del Parque de la Ciudad, as well as the Palacio Lezama, Puente Pacífico and the Pirámide de Mayo.[S1]
The lighting plan also covers 37 temples. Of those, 33 will receive artistic lighting for the first time, while four others, including the Catedral Metropolitana de Buenos Aires, will have a modernized system. The aim is to showcase the city's architectural and religious heritage during the papal visit, strengthen its night-time identity and improve safe routes for residents and the faithful.[S1]
