A body found near the Premià de Mar breakwater
Firefighters from the Generalitat located the body of the missing woman at around 11 a.m. on Sunday, close to the breakwater of Premià de Mar port in the Maresme area. The site lies about six kilometres from the point where the current caught her shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, as she walked with her husband and two children. The emergency services received the alert at 7:41 p.m., according to the fire brigade.[S1][S2][S3][S4][S5][S6][S7][S8]
Earlier, searchers had found a garment that might have belonged to the victim about two kilometres from where she was last seen, near the stream's mouth. On Sunday morning the operation concentrated on that area and on the stretch of sea next to the coast. Firefighters, the Mossos d'Esquadra, local police and Salvamento Marítimo took part.[S1]
Three search sectors along the stream
The operation to find the woman moved 18 fire brigade units and 78 personnel, who worked through the night, the early hours and the morning. It drew on crews from the northern metropolitan emergency region, medium command staff, the Subaquatic Special Actions Group (GRAE), drone teams from the Air Means Unit and members of the Forest Active Prevention Teams.[S1]
Coordination involved the Mossos d'Esquadra, the local police and Salvamento Marítimo. According to the Catalan government, the search was split into three sectors to comb the stream's course intensively from the point where she was dragged to its mouth. The first stretch, from the scene to the cooperative roundabout, a channel with concrete walls, was assigned to the Mossos and local police. The second ran to the area near the Calipso hotel and involved firefighters and the GRAE. The third covered the final stretch to the mouth.[S1]
Salvamento Marítimo handled the sea search overnight. In the morning a GRAE Subaquatic vessel and another from the Mossos d'Esquadra joined. With daylight, teams reviewed every sector again and widened the sweep along the first line of coast north and south of the stream's mouth.[S1]
Storm Adam's toll on travel and a new alert
Joan Ramon Cabello, deputy director of prevention at Civil Protection, said at a press conference that the rainfall had not caused other notable incidents, even though Meteocat data show it was the heaviest precipitation in six years. Civil Protection kept the Inuncat flood emergency plan active, and authorities expect another bout of rain on Monday, October 19, depending on how storm Adam evolves. The Catalan Water Agency is monitoring river, stream and gully flows after issuing warnings about possible overflow in Maresme, Vallès Occidental, Baix Llobregat and Garraf.[S1]
The weather also disrupted transport. Barcelona-El Prat airport recorded 45 flight cancellations, though AENA said operations had returned to normal during the morning. The situation prevented the FC Barcelona squad from returning overnight from Seville, so the team spent the night in the Andalusian city. Rodalies de Catalunya restored service on all lines after suspending it the previous night. The GI-552 road remained closed in Riells i Viabrea, while the B-224 and GI-682 had landslides with alternating traffic.[S1]
Figures from the Catalan meteorological service show the territory had not collected so much rain in a single day since storm Gloria on January 21, 2020. Several points in Vallès and Baix Llobregat came close to 100 litres per square metre, and Barcelona port recorded 87.5 litres.[S1]
