Trailer Reveals Rescue and Family Drama
Fox has unveiled the first three-minute trailer for its Baywatch revival ahead of the show's January debut. Viewers see Stephen Amell, cast as an adult Hobie Buchannon, heading up a rescue when an aircraft strikes a parasailer. Once the rebellious kid of the 1990s original, Hobie now holds the rank of Baywatch Captain, emulating his father Mitch. His life takes a turn when Charlie (Jessica Belkin), a daughter he was unaware of, shows up wanting to join the lifeguard ranks and continue the family tradition.[S1]
Production and Cast Details
In September 2025, Fox gave the Baywatch reboot a 12-episode commitment for the 2026-2027 season. An open casting call took place in early 2026, and cameras started rolling in Los Angeles that spring. Joining Amell and Belkin in the main cast are Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi and Thaddeus LaGrone. Recurring parts go to Ashley Moore, Luke Eisner, Nadia Gray, Kylar Miranda and Charlie McElveen. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion also turns up, as the trailer reveals.[S1][S2]
Legacy of the Original Series
Baywatch first hit the airwaves in 1989 and eventually became the most-watched program worldwide, broadcast in more than 200 nations. David Hasselhoff led the ensemble as Mitch Buchannon, the top lifeguard, and the show served as a launching pad for performers such as Pamela Anderson, Jason Momoa, Yasmine Bleeth and Carmen Electra. It led to the spinoff Baywatch Nights and a 2017 big-screen adaptation with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron that flopped. Matt Nix serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz, with McG also helming the first episode. Fox Entertainment and Fremantle co-produce.[S1]
