A date set in Paris for the investment decision
The Argentina LNG consortium will sign the final investment decision for its megaproject on November 26, according to YPF president and CEO Horacio Marín. He made the announcement from Paris, where he took part in a panel titled around the Argentina GNL project as the largest investment in the country's history, alongside the initiative's partners: Italy's Eni and XRG, the international arm of the United Arab Emirates' ADNOC.[S1]
Marín said the consortium would sign the FID on that date. The milestone matters because completing it would allow construction to begin in February 2027, as El Cronista had anticipated. In a later post on his X account, the YPF president said Argentina would stop being only a country with enormous resources and become a reliable energy supplier to the world, adding that the discussion was no longer about potential alone and that projects were being made to happen.[S1]
Production, transport and floating liquefaction
The project covers gas production in Vaca Muerta, its transport to the Río Negro coast and liquefaction through floating units to supply international markets. The integrated plan requires estimated investments of US$51 billion, of which around US$30 billion would be disbursed during the first four years after the FID.[S1]
The initiative could generate up to 40,000 direct and indirect jobs and exports of about US$10 billion a year once it enters operation. According to Marín, the consortium has already moved forward in the search for buyers and is holding negotiations to close LNG sales contracts in Asia and Europe.[S1]
