Faris Responds to Lorre's Memoir
Anna Faris has spoken out after Chuck Lorre, the creator of the CBS sitcom Mom, wrote in his memoir that his initial hesitation to cast her was correct. In a statement posted on Instagram on Thursday, Faris said she had read some of the book and did not expect such remarks. She acknowledged that the comments hurt, but also expressed gratitude for the job and the seven years she spent on the show, saying she never took a day for granted and is proud of what they created together.[S1][S2][S3][S4][S5][S6][S7][S8]
In his memoir Sitcom, Lorre wrote that his difficult experiences with Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men made him wary of hiring Faris. He noted that he did not want that history to cloud his judgment, and ultimately decided that Faris was right for the role. However, he also wrote that as time went on, his initial reluctance proved correct, and that after six years Faris left the show for reasons that were not mysterious to anyone involved. Faris departed Mom in 2020, before its eighth and final season.[S1]
Sobriety and Moving Forward
In the same statement, Faris shared that she has now gone a year and a half without drinking. She pointed out how strange it felt to act in a series centered on recovery while going through recovery in her own life. Today, she described herself as healthy, employed, and happier than she has felt in quite some time. To others facing the same battle, she extended encouragement, telling them things improve and that her own life stands as evidence.[S1]
